Porn Can be a Bit of an Ethical Grey Area

Like a lot of men, and an increasing number of women, I like porn. Hentai is great, and so is the live action stuff. However, lately I find myself being more responsible for what I consume. I don’t spend any money, but a page view still generates advertising revenue, which means now and again I’m generating wealth for somebody even if the money didn’t come from *my* pocket. I don’t want to encourage unethical behavior, not even indirectly, for a matter as intimate and personal as a pornographic or erotic performance.

One of the things I don’t see discussed often in sex-positive (and porn-positive) circles is the very real possibility that the pornography industry is, well, unethical. I don’t mean the material itself; that’s a separate discussion. I’m talking about manipulation and abuse, mostly of women, many of them young (let’s face it, not all 18 year old girls really understand what they’re doing when they pose for the camera, or perform in a scene for that matter!). It’s difficult to untangle the evidence and opinions, though admittedly I haven’t tried very hard.

Then there’re health concerns. Now and again I hear noise in the industry about condom use during non-solo performances, for instance, but performers have repeatedly neglected that safety because consumers appear to prefer unprotected sex acts. That doesn’t seem right to me.

Any thoughts, criticism, or discussion would be appreciated.“

I totally agree with you – there is a lot of ethically fuzzy stuff going on in the adult entertainment industry. I have heard interviews with porn stars who talked about how if a woman isn’t willing to do certain acts (anal, double penetration, etc) she’ll often have a harder time getting work with some studios.
Plus, once she decides to (for example) do anal for a particular film, the studio will expect her to do it every/any time and will keep upping the ante on what they want her to do next.

The whole thing with condoms is a pretty weird mess too. The porn industry has the opportunity to encourage consumers to use condoms – all they have to do is lead by example. If in all porn the actors used condoms it would become more and more normalized and the general public might be more interested in using them as well.

The shitty thing is, whoever is deciding what people want to see in porn, doesn’t think people will watch it if there are condoms being used. But really, it’s not like they even stop the action to put on the condom in the porn films where condoms are used – like many of the “real” parts of sex, it’s cut out.
I heartily believe that if all the studios started having their actors use condoms, their business wouldn’t suffer at all. But maybe I’m naive?

The whole porn/erotica industry is really one giant grey area – esp when you get into issues of dehumanization and derogatory treatment of women in a lot of porn. There’s evidence that it’s pretty damaging to both men and women who watch it, but some men AND women say that it does turn them on – so things can get pretty confusing in that body of literature.

Porn Review – Big Bang Theory XXX

I have seen maybe one and a half full episodes of the sitcom Big Bang Theory, which I think makes me just qualified enough to review a pornographic parody of the show. ^_~
I think these parodies are a hilariously great concept – remember what I said about how hentai lets anime fans see their fave characters in sexual situations? These XXX parodies do the same thing, except with live action shows/movies!

Big Bang Theory XXX stars Ashlynn Brooke, who has been popping up in a LOT of the XXX parodies being made – which doesn’t surprise me, because she’s actually a half decent actress and is pretty hot (she’s got a cute pussy too, which doesn’t hurt). Actually, all the people in this porn put in a decent amount of effort to stay true to their characters, which was really cool – their lines were pretty well written, including some fairly funny nerd jokes.

The sex scenes were pretty hot – including an all-girl threeway, a M-F-M threesome, and two or three other pair-offs. As usual I found the sex scenes a little long (which we all know is a common problem for someone with porn ADD, like me), but when I jumped ahead to make the action move faster, I thought the sex scenes were pretty good, with some fun and sexy highlights (like a great scene where one girl is fucking two others at the same time with dildos).

All in all, I thought Big Bang Theory XXX was a pretty decent porn, especially for fans of the show who have always wanted to see their fave science nerd grad students get laid – who would have guessed they’d have such hard bodies underneath those clothes!? ^_~

Product Review – 2040

Just a disclaimer before you read this review: I’m a harsh judge of porn – I’m really really picky about what I want to see and what I don’t want to see. Still, when when my friends at Babeland asked me if I wanted to review this new big-budget porn that was chock full of stars and poised to win awards, I thought I’d give 2040 a chance to impress me.

So, I recruited a straight guy friend to watch it with me (to provide a guy’s perspective for you) and we popped it in (the DVD not… you know… ^_~) to have a look.

What we liked: The nice thing about watching a big budget porn is the attention to detail; the sets were nice, the costumes were good, and everything looked great. Alektra Blue played a fantastic android (all joking aside about porn actresses’ ability), I was extremely impressed with how well she stayed in character. However, for me, personally, Kristen Price stole the show a little – her character was just so damn spicy, and hot in her techie costume (esp the one they show her in on the cover). I also enjoyed the details that were added for the story – like the “director” instructing Randy Spears’ character to ejaculate in the sex android’s removable oral cavity, and the discussion about Alektra’s character’s self cleaning vagina. haha

What we didn’t like: It’s the same complaint I have about most mainstream porn – the sex is too repetitive and I get bored. Especially with all the oral; I don’t know what it is, but watching blowjob after blowjob bores me to death. My male friend even agrees with me here – there is too much time spent on bjs and he not only finds it boring, but doesn’t particularly enjoy looking at another man’s cock for so long. But hey, that’s just us. Oh, I also find Randy Spears a little creepy – though he DID play his role well.

Also, I couldn’t decide if this was bad or not – but 2040 is a REALLY long movie and the plot kinda drags by the end. I’m wondering if maybe you’re not meant to watch it all in one sitting.

Final Verdict: This porn was pretty to look at and the plot was carried out fairly well, but we still found it a little boring. However, as I said above – we are quite picky.

2040 gets a 6 out of 10

What Would You Do?

If you didn’t quite have enough cash for something that you really wanted… something like… a nice new car or a fairytale wedding – would you preform in and market your own porn videos? I tweeted about this yesterday, but I’m still thinking about the couple that did just that.

I’m debating whether this is even really that news-worthy; how many people run adult websites where they post pictures or stream live feeds of themselves preforming various sex acts? Lots! Some of them do it for fun, some to supplement their income, and others make enough money that their personal website can be their primary (and only) income!

Maybe this story seems newsworthy because this couple appeared “average” until they decided to pick a (seemingly) unique way to make some extra cash for something special. I wonder if they’ll keep up with making these videos even after their wedding – making your own porn might be pretty addictive!!

So, what are your thoughts on this whole thing?

Product Review – Cheerleaders

I don’t review porn very often because I’m a little picky, but my friends at Babeland sent me a copy of Cheerleaders and it looked promising – what with it’s award winning all girl orgy scene (they won the AVN 2009 Best All-Girl Group Sex Scene award). So I sat down with a friend and we decided to check it out.

What I liked: I did appreciate the variety in the girls: there were blonds, brunets, etc and there were small breasted girls, medium, and silly big fake boobs (though not a lot of variety in their body sizes). The sex scenes were fairly well choreographed, and almost moved fast enough for my porno ADD (I get bored fast!). However…

What I didn’t like: I know this is such a chick thing to say, but I found that there wasn’t enough story in this porno. I’m not even expecting much here, but the girls are given roles: the student seducing a teacher in detention, the new cheerleader experimenting with a more senior cheerleader and her boyfriend, etc – and they can’t seem to stick with them throughout the scene! All I’m saying is that if the girls had kept up with their characters and acted according to how their characters might react to, say, their first time sucking a dick, it would have been a whole lot more entertaining and sexy (like in some of Teagan Presley’s early work).

Overall: This might not be a title to pick to watch with your girlfriend (unless you just plan to have it in the background and don’t intend to pay attention), but if you’re solo and just want to see some hot (if not contextual) banging, go for it. :)

5 out of 10 is the best I can muster for Cheerleaders:

CBW Photo Tips

One of our recent CBW submitters had an interesting conversation with his girlfriend after she saw him up on The S Spot.

She told him that if he was going to be submitting pics to be displayed to the world like this, he’d needs start taking better quality pix. He says: “Then with the help of her friend, they laid out exactly what I need to do to, including critiques of photos I was taking with their advice. I’ve got to say it was a pretty surreal night and I owe it all to you. Thanks.”

With Cocktoberfest coming up very soon we’re going to be needing a nice stock of photos from you – my male and my female readers – so this seems like a perfect time to go over some tips for taking good photos for your goodies. ^_^

1. The camera: I do get a few photos sent in from people’s cell phone cameras and usually the quality is pretty bad on those. If all you have is the camera on your cell, we do appreciate the submission, but if you have access to anything better… well obviously the picture is going to turn out better. The best advice I can give the cell phone photographers is to make sure everything is well lit – that will help with the grainy-ness a little. Which brings us to our next point:

2. Lighting: there’s actually a lot you can play around with here. If the room is well lit you won’t need to use a flash, which can be good because the flash can occasionally make things look shiny or red – unless that’s what you’re going for, which can be cool too. Using a flash does let you play with shadows a little bit; like if, for example, you’re standing near a wall to photograph your dick from the side, the flash will cast a shadow on the wall.

3. The Presentation: here is where you can really get creative. Think about what you want to show us: a sneaky shot with your wang hanging out of your fly, all nonchalant? A shot of your vag spread wide for all to see? A shot of you cock next to something for comparison (a banana? a beer? in a pint glass?)? You using a toy? Or just your dick, as hard as you can get it?
For this last one, I do have a couple of tips: jerk off a little (really get that blood flowing); pick a good angle (consider setting your camera on a hard surface nearby and using the timer rather than trying to look down at it); and don’t grab your dick with your fist (unless your aim is to provide a mid-wank shot) because that can make you appear shorter – instead, try holding just around the base with a just few fingers. If you’re really having trouble with angles, get a friend or lover to help you out by holding the camera for you.

4. Cropping: sometimes the best way to get a good shot is to set your camera further away and try posing with your whole body (standing up flexing, sitting/laying down wanking, on all fours from behind, etc) – you can always crop the photo later before you send it to me. And speaking of cropping…

5. Location: picking a cool location for your photo can be part of the fun, you could use your office, your bedroom, the kitchen, the backyard, you car, anywhere really! But keep in mind that I don’t want you to get arrested. ^_~ If you want to be more anonymous, you should keep identifying objects (like a mug with your name on it, or unique room decor, etc) out of the shot. This is where cropping or posing in front of a blank wall or hanging sheet can come in handy.
