Product Review - Personal Shaving Kit
I already had a system for pube grooming that I felt was working for me, but I’m always open to new ideas, so when I saw the Ultimate Personal Shaver Kit on VibeReview I was curious.
When it arrived, I looked at the before and after pictures on the box and I have to say that I was a little bit skeptical that an electric shaver would be able to shave that close and that cleanly. I was ready to give it a try and prove that it was too good to be true… so much for that. ^_~
The kit comes with a lot of way cool gadgets: a trimming shaver (looks like a little wand), a finishing shaver (with a foil), shaving talc, a talc brush, shaving stencils, a mini cleaning brush, and a nice storage case for it all.
I used cornstarch instead of talc (since I don’t fully trust talc), dusted myself up using the brush, and stepped into the tub to try out the shavers. Soon after I was joined by a male counterpart so that we could get a male perspective as well. [Side Note: You'll def want to shave in the tub or over a drop cloth too so that cleaning up all the cut hair is easier.]
What I liked: I was really impressed with how well both razors worked; I ended up with an incredibly smooth shave, plus no razor bumps or ingrown hairs. Both the trimming and the finishing razors were super fun and easy to use. Even when I couldn’t quite see what I was doing (though I could have used a mirror) I still ended up smooth. I picked out the arrow stencil to use (seemed more hilarious than the butterfly or lightening bolt); since it was a sticker I didn’t need to hold it in place and I ended up with a perfect little arrow of trimmed hair when I was done. ^_^ Forget my old system, this is what I’m going to be using from now on!
What he liked: From the way that the trimming razor looked, he was a little worried that it might pinch, but was pleased to find that it never did, even when we accidentally touched it directly to our skin a few times. He was very impressed with how well (and how safely) it shaved both of our tender bits. He also mentioned that he had a lot fun helping me make sure that I was smooth everywhere I wanted to be. haha In fact I remember quite a few times where we both said “hey, this is really fun!”
What we didn’t like: I would say that my only complaint was that the talc container did burst during shipping and so there was a little spillage inside the kit that I had to deal with when I opened it up.
This would be great for: everyone! Everyone should have a well groomed crotch, even if you’re just keeping things trimmed down, it’s just more pleasant for everyone. You’d be surprised how much more naked and how much closer you feel to your partner when there is less hair between you. These are also wonderful (and safe) tools that couples can use together to shave each other - these electric razors may not vibrate much, but it’s still great foreplay.
I have to give the Ultimate Personal Shaver kit a silky smooth 10 out of 10 - well done!

So, what separates this kit from the small trimming kit sold on TV for sideburns and such?

Camilla - You might be able to get a *little* closer with a blade, but you’d be sacrificing your skin. I say make the switch, or at least give it a try.
IM - Well I haven’t seen the TV kit you’re talking about, so I don’t know. But the trimming razor does resemble a small razor (advertised for bikini lines) that I’ve seen in stored - however, it doesn’t come with the foiled finishing razor.
Amethyst - Hey I do it for you, my readers, because I luv you guys! ^_^ As for the dead links… yeah it’s a very time consuming problem I’m still working on. In the meantime you can always use the search bar and categories to help find what you’re looking for.

How fast is regrowth? I use a combination of tweezing the bikini area and shaving the parts I can’t see well enough to tweeze. Razor shaved areas obviously grow back much more quickly and thickly- how does the grow back from this kit compare to a regular shave? Thank you!!

Regrowth seems about average I think.
P.S. my dear, it is a myth that shaved hair grows back thicker
P.P.S You are a braver person than I am (or at least more pain tolerant) I don’t think I could ever tweeze my pubes - it’s far too painful!

Shaved hair most definitely grows back more thickly than tweezed hair, sorry to be unclear. ;)
You’d be surprised how painless it is! It only really hurts on the soft spot of your thigh, like waxing, as long as you shave the area before the first time you tweeze. Tweezing full grown hair is painful.

I bought one of these from a sexuality and lifestyle exhibition, My partner and I used it for a time and liked the results initially. We found both the trimmer and the shaver were prone to quick wear and we didn’t get more than 4-5 uses out of the set before they either broked (trimmer) or stopped shaving as closely (shaver). It may have just been the particular units we got but it looked identical to the ones in the image above.

Being me … I really would love a link to specifications and diagrams (and photographs with arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one ;-) about the gizmo itself, before shelling out the $.
But I’m interested, having drawn blood with clippers on that ….
That thing …
Now that I think about it … if you stretch the scrotal skin back over your balls really tightly — there’s a ridge of skin between them…
That HAS to have an anatomical name …
I have no idea what it might be LOL
But I’ve cut that ‘tween-ball, line up the scrotum thing with the clippers. That’s when I learned that “pruning back” was preferable to “shaving”
I am totally digging the fact that both of you guys were pleased with it :D

A lightning bolt! How funny. All I can picture is Flash Gorgon with a clit.

I’m always looking for the smoothest alternative to waxing (not willing to have the regrowth required between waxes.) Currently, I use an electric trimmer for a landing strip, then shave gel & double blade razor for the labia and bikini areas.
How does the foil razor compare to a blade shave?
