“I know that there’s certainly no shortage of hentai fangirls, but I’ve long wondered what proportion of them are hetero/homo/bisexual. Considering hentai’s focus on voluptuous young ladies I’d hazard a guess that the latter two may be predominant, but I’d be interested to see the reality (as much as a small-scale survey on a hentai-themed blog can claim to be scientific…). I know that men and women tend to view sex very differently – when I’ve compared comments on hentai before from both sexes I’ve wondered whether men tend to view characters as sexy because “It’s somebody to have sex with!”, whereas women are more likely to identify the character as sexy because “I want that to happen to me!”. As an example, I know that there are female fans of tentacle sex, but I struggle to imagine many men getting aroused by a male character being fondled by a mollusc (happy to be proven wrong!). Very simplistic, I know, and only based on anecdotal experience, but I’ve got this theory a-burnin’ and I’d like to see it tested.”
First of all, a woman doesn’t have to identify as Bi or lesbian to appreciate the sight of a hot hentia girl (or of other real women either). Just because a woman doesn’t want to have sex with the girls in her porn/hentai/erotica, doesn’t mean that she can’t still enjoy it and be turned on by it.
You’re definitely on the right track with object of desire vs object of identification in hentai. This theory actually applies to all forms of entertainment (erotica, movies, books, etc); for a character to be successful, members of the audience will usually want to either be them or be with them.
Take Indiana Jones for example, a big part of the reason why he’s such an icon is because men (and some women) would love to be him and women (and some men) would love to have sex with him.
This is also ties in to why many women have trouble enjoying porn: they neither want to be the women portrayed in the film nor want to be with the men/women/orbject/etc. I’ve talked about that a little more HERE.
Anyway.
I’m sure there are plenty of men who like the idea of being over-taken by tentacles. Even straight guys can enjoy a little pegging and a tentacle monster could easily jerk him off at the same time! But you’re right, the vast majority of male tentacle-sex fans probably just like the idea of watching multiple penetrations happening to a hot chick that they would like to do themselves.
first! And I’d like to be the first to show such a girl how enjoyable a real life guy would be. tentacle sex is pretty weird but a girl that loves to get it that way is pretty hot IMHO.
Fantasy is fantasy and reality is reality. Hentai is often more attractive than real p0rn because it’s more abstract and idealistic. I doubt that most of those which enjoy tentacle hentai would enjoy the same with real actors and realistic special effects much less enjoy if it actually happened in reality because it would be fairly scary and disgusting. I think it’s pretty normal to fantasize about things and scenarios and being turned on but never want to experience the same in reality. For example, many women have rape fantasies. Do you think they want to be raped in reality? Certainly not. The point is, in your fantasy you still control what happens and you can ignore everything about it which you wouldn’t want like pain, fear or witnesses. When you’re finished with fantasizing, it’s all back to zero and nobody will ever know happened in you fantasy. I’m convinced it’s much healthier to fantasize even if it would be embarassing, awkward or illegal in reality than suppressing such thoughts and lie to yourself.
Also why shouldn’t you use your brain to imagine a different perspective and being the other person? Isn’t it fairly normal wanting to know how your lover feels during sex?
nate – haha nice
PT – okay… that was a little off topic… :)
um, i kno for me personally….
i identify myself as a straight woman. i like cock, but i wouldn’t be opposed to kissing a girl (just once) or even having a threesome (if i felt like it, lol) anyway, i think the hentai stuff is pretty, 1st & erotic 2nd if tht makes sense, lol.
and i also think tht women can have fantasies (thinking about a celebrity) or appreciate the beauty of a fellow female (like, i think Angelina Jolie is hott!!) & not be a lesbian or bi-sexual….
I don’t know about anyone else, but I enjoy hentai because a good portion of it is honestly beautiful. Sure, there’s a lot of it that’s mass produced and focused entirely on the sex, but it’s not hard to find hentai with original watercolor backgrounds, light streaming through windows, and a use of tone and color to enhance a scene. Just as importantly for me, the characters show emotions: love, aprehension, anger, sadness… certainly something that can be lacking in real-life pornography (though photographers like Abby Winters seem to be starting to change that).
I told my last girlfriend that I liked hentai, and I both shared some of my favorites with her and explained what I liked about each. She was originally apprehensive, but after we talked about it and went through them together, she actually found a few of them that turned her on, even a couple that were lesbian. I think there’s something that’s actually more universally appealing about hentai compared to traditional pornography, when you treat it less like pornography and more like erotic art.
Also, I’m curious to know if anyone else has come upon a hentai image that was so artfully done that you actually got distracted from the sex/foreplay/whatever. I know I’ve found scenes where I’ve gotten lost in the way the artist painted a string of paper lanterns, or perhaps that evoked nostalgia for a lazy summer afternoon years past.
On the topic of male tentacle rape -
Besides the typical groping and penetrating tentacles, their is such a thing in hentai as a tentacle that opens up and acts essentially like a wonderfully tight vagina. Just throwing that out there ^_^
Mandy – exactly!
S – a) not all guys are interested in vaginas, b) yup, I’ve seen it; especially for futas.
