When Post-Wank Smells Linger

A belated Happy Victoria Day to you! Sorry about the lack of posting, but I was too busy enjoying the long weekend with friends and couldn’t break away to write up a post. So, without further ado, here is a reader question answered:

“Hi Shay! I’ve been a reader for a while, and before I pose my question, I’d just like to say good job on an awesome blog. As for the question … I just moved recently. I’m (for now) living in the basement of a friend of my mom’s. I hadn’t noticed anything before, but apparently I brought this smell with me. Every time it’s been mentioned, the smell has been described as being fishy, and as fish itself makes me nauseous, that narrows down quite a few options. After thinking about it, and thinking back on what I had done lately after each time it ‘resurfaced’ (following a resurfacing after an intense cleaning session), I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s probably coming from me. more specifically, my vagina. I didn’t really notice it myself at first, but each time it does generally occurs shortly after I’ve spent a little time having fun with myself. Recently though I have been noticing that it is rather musky and slightly fishy. So, my question is, do you know of anything that might be causing my vagina to smell like this? Or even, can you think of anything that I might be able to do to change the smell? Or at least get it to tone down and not be as noticeable as it apparently is? Thanks, Slightly Embarassed“

It can be really embarrassing when you realize that someone might be picking up on something private – whether they know it themselves or not. But the same thing actually happened to me many years ago. My dad complained that my room smelled weird. I had noticed the musky smell too, and suspected it was from my vag and had something to do with my solo indulgences (just like you). So, after my dad brought it up, I right away got to cleaning my room.
I found that if I made sure that I always got my dirty laundry into the basket and washed that and my sheets at least once a week, it helped keep my room smelling fresh.

I really don’t want you worrying about trying to change the smell of your vagina, it’s healthy for it to have a musky odour. However, if it does become more fishy than musky or the smell changes in other ways (e.g. if it becomes a paste-like smell) then you might want to go in for a check up because you could have an infection.

It’s not too surprising that you notice the scent gets stronger or “resurfaces” after solo-sessions, because that’s when you’re on: creating more pheromones, secreting more musky sweat, etc – and that could be getting on your sheets, clothes, etc and lingering around the room. Try getting a nice air freshener and a fan. Basements are notorious for poor air circulation which often leads to smells hanging around.
