So, for the person just beginning to get an interest in hentai, are there some sites you can recommend?

And, I’m way kinds of excited to hear about the big breast reasoning.

1) Most comic book artists are male and adolescent of temperament (if not always age) and they see hentai as a way to represent the kind of women they wish they could have sex with. The characters are represented as very young because the artists and intended audience are working out fantasies of their own adolescence.

2) They are interested in drawing (lovingly) all the girl parts they want to see and often pride themselves on the idealized “accuracy” of their representations. Putting men “in the way” totally defeats the purpose of displaying their skill (not to mention the fantasized-over naughty bits.)

3) At least in hetero/”lesbian” hentai they’re not interested in or are uncomfortable with representations of male sexuality. As in much of industrial hetero porn men appear only as necessary accessories. If you want to see (or “accurately” represent) a woman’s vulva during penetration they sort of have to draw something male, but since the male characters are there only to support the depiction of the female characters it’s fine to crop them down to a bit of belly and cock. I think the whole tentacle-porn and hermaphrodite thing is so common in hentai because it dispenses with identifiable male characters altogether.

4) There’s a principle in comics theory (yes, there’s a fairly well-developed school of comics theory) that readers can get deeper into the work if their point-of-view proxy isn’t as well represented, which argues against complete depictions of the actual protagonist (as opposed to the nominal, almost always female “victim/protagonist” in hentai.)

5) Hentai rendering is incredibly personalized from a reader’s point of view. Based on body angles, perspective rendering, and the projected point of focus of the subject character’s eyes, it’s pretty easy to see that the hentai girl is sitting on the reader’s cock, looking into his (the target demographic’s) eyes. Even when it’s impossible to project one’s self into the penetrating character’s role the female characters are represented in a way that invites the reader to enter the scene (and the female character) as a partner in a three-way.

So: Neither the artists nor the readers they have in mind are interested in seeing men’s bits unless they’re represented in a way that helps them insert themselves into the scene.

Of course I could be mistaken about all that.
