My friends at California Exotics sent me this nifty looking vibe called the Calypso. As you can see in the pic above, it’s purple and kinda weird looking, with silicone nubbies on one end (I think these are what are mentioned on the box as “foreplay arousers”). It takes two AA batteries, it’s got a nice curve to it, and it has 7 vibration programs. The Calypso is controlled by just one button – you press it to turn it on, press it again (and again) to cycle through the vibration programs, and hold it down to turn it off – it’s pretty intuitive.
It took me FOREVER to open the battery casing, but once I got it off, I popped in some batteries and took this toy for a spin to see if it could get ME off (you totally saw that joke coming a mile away didn’t you? Whoa! “coming”?! Man, I am on a roll!).
What I liked: The vibration settings included some pretty nifty programs that I haven’t tried before, so that was pretty fun. The vibrations traveled fairly well through the toy, and the silicone has a nice silky texture. The nubbies are okay, but don’t do much unless you’re moving the toy yourself.
What I didn’t like: I hated how much trouble the battery casing was – I nearly gave up and left my batteries inside when I was finished with this toy, but managed to pry it open with my nail file in the end. I found that the handle vibrated just as much, if not more than the head, which was a little disappointing, because more focused vibration in the head would have been more fun. Also, this toy is LOUD, louder than a cell phone’s vibration by far. I am very glad my roommate wasn’t home, because she for sure would have heard me using it.
Overall: Calypso is okay, but I’ve seen better from Cal Exotics. I’ll give it a 3 out of 10:
