Product Review – Emerita Natural Lube – discontinued

When I first spotted the Emerita lube in the package Babeland had sent me, my first thought was “great. Lube. I don’t need new lube, I’m doing fine with my bottle of KY. Am I even going to notice a difference?” I didn’t even bother reading the packaging, I just put it on my bedside table and made a mental note to try to remember to use it the next time I thought I might want to use some lube.
Like many of you, it never used to occur to me to use lube when I had vaginal sex. I’m supposed to make my own lube right? So something must be wrong with me if I need to use lube, right? Wrong.
Lube is just plain fun to use – whether my body’s making enough of it’s own or not.

But lubes can have their problems. The very first lube I ever tried was a little sachet of warming, blue-raspberry flavoured lube. It warmed up, sure, but it made my lips go numb and tasted weird! The next lube I tried was KY, I never put it in my mouth, but it smelled funny, got sticky, and felt icky on my hands after application.

Then one night, when I felt like lube would be a nice little extra with my sex, I reached over to my bedside table and discovered Emerita.

Emerita is a woman owned and operated company that makes products designed specifically with a woman’s chemistry in mind (yes, we do have special chemistry down there). In their natural lube, there are no parabens, no mineral oil, no petroleum, and no material from animals. They also do not test their products on animals.

I noticed later that it also says on the bottle, “goes well with: latex, fabrics [true, I dripped some on the duvet cover by accident and it didn't leave a mark!], your own personal chemistry, soft music.” I thought that was cute.
But you don’t care about what it says on the packaging, you want to know how it preformed! So let’s get to it. I tested the Emerita Natural Lubricant with vaginal sex (twice, just to be sure ^_~) and with a hand job.

What I liked: I loved that it didn’t make my hands sticky or icky after I applied it. Usually I have to grab a tissue and end up holding onto it because I feel like I’m going to get my sheets “dirty” with the sticky Ky. But this was not the case with the Emerita, I rubbed my fingers together and felt fine! It was silky smooth and just rubbed away without getting sticky.

This might make you think that Emerita is too light and would just absorb into your skin without doing it’s job, but you’d be wrong. For vaginal sex it had a great consistency, didn’t feel fake in any way, didn’t make me feel like I needed to wash it away afterwards, and most importantly, it did it’s job.
I did have to reapply a couple of time for the handjob, but other than that it did a great job there as well. It was silkily viscous, but never sticky.

What he liked: The smell. “I hate how KY smells, it’s not sexy at all. But this one smelled fine.” [If anything, it smells very faintly like glue.]

What I didn’t like: There was nothing I can think of that I didn’t like about this lube at this time. Maybe as my experience with lube continues this one will move down in my opinion, but for me, right now this is the best lube I’ve ever used.

This would be great for: anyone who’s looking for a little more wetness in their life; anyone who thinks about using products not tested on animals; anyone stuck in a KY rut who wonders if there might be something better out there in the water-based lube market.

I hereby give Emerita’s Natural Lube a 10 out of 10.

You are making me rethink lube! Thanks for the visit over to our place. *smile* btw… it’s Pandora here *wink*

This is the stuff that I use, and I really recommend it. My rule of thumb now is “don’t use anything with glycerin.”

This stuff sounds good though. Might have to check it out:) Thanks, Shay!

  • Shay

    Mina – haha excellent ^_^

Sem – pay attention kiddo, I already have a link to her in the body of my post. tsk tsk tsk

    twg – cool, enjoy ^_^

do you think this would work well for anal?

  • Shay

Yes, I do think that this would be a fine lube for anal; it’s viscous enough, but you’ll want to make sure that you keep it handy in case you need to add extra as you go. It certainly will be WAY better than KY for anal, but I’m not sure if it could beat out a silicone lube.

Sounds like good stuff. I’m glad you liked it!

I’m so gonna have to try that stuff. I hate the smell of KY and Astroglide doesn’t last as long I find.

  • nate

    Excellent review!

Do you think this would work for breast sex on a woman with a history of skin sensitivities to lubes?

If not, can you recommend one that might work? A dry tit-fuck is a bit less rewarding than I’d like to admit :-P

  • Gadfly

    Wow

I’ve enjoyed a number of different kinds of lube over the years …

But … the idea that a blog post about lube makes me think I’ve been missing something … wow

    ;-)

  • exile

i hate when lube turns to that sticky pasty badness…

no glue for the goo i say

  • Shay

    AAG – Thanks babe ^_~

CayJ – Yeah! Give it a try for sure!

    Nate – thanks ^_^

Anon – Yes, I think this lube should be fine for a woman with sensitive skin, because it’s got a different chemical balance than other lubes like KY – it also won’t get so sticky. You might as well give it a try.

    Gad – haha ^_~

I may have to try this stuff with my girlfriend as she’s not nearly as wet as my previous one and so she occasionally needs a little extra help during longer sessions (especially with a condom since those seem—despite the fact that they’re lubed condoms—seem to dry up women’s natural lubrication after an hour or so of play).

  • [...] beast, Pleaser is a thick toy too (AAG calls it a soup can!), so I grabbed a bottle of lube and started work on the next chapter of DoaF before giving it a [...]
